This course, for all Justice employees, is a continuation of the first course held in March 2024, Anti-Black Racism: An Intersectional Approach. In this course, participants examine a framework on diversity, substantive equality and inclusion, and what these concepts mean in the workplace. Through interactive discussions, participants evaluate strategies to advance racial equality and inclusion for Black employees within the department and across the federal public service. They review existing DEI policies, programs and practices as well as strategies to respond to anti-Black racism within the workplace.

This course will provide participants an overview of Bill C-13, An Act for the Substantive Equality of Canada’s Official Languages.

A foundational session for all Justice Canada employees with a focus on issues specific to Justice Canada, this course is designed to strengthen awareness, knowledge and understanding of anti-Black racism within the public service and in Canadian society so that you can contribute to an organizational culture where Black people experience full participation, belonging and equality.

Information sessions with JUS employees to promote the new policy and explain how applies to day-to-day work

Antisemitism did not begin with the Holocaust, nor did it die with the defeat of Nazism in 1945. Antisemitism has been called one of the world’s oldest forms of hatred, dating back more than 2,000 years in the archeological record to Greek and Roman sources.

This training session will provide Justice counsels with the knowledge and tools to appear with confidence, in a meaningful and appropriate manner before parliamentary committees.

Each employee of the Department of Justice has a role to play in maintaining a healthy and safe working environment! The Armed Intruder: Do you know what to do? sessions, presented by the Safety, Security and Emergency Management Division (SSEMD), provide information to departmental staff to assist them in developing their personal action plan in the event of an armed intruder entering the workplace.

Assess your comfort with legal research tools and know where to find tools and resources to improve skills

We have developed a new in-class course for litigators who have carriage of litigation files arising under the Access to Information Act and Privacy Act. The course aims to provide litigators with an introduction to ATIP law. It will also explain to litigators the specific legal and procedural issues that arise in Access to Information Act and Privacy Act judicial review applications.

Presentation on the general principles of Aboriginal law and recent cases from the Supreme Court of Canada dealing with Aboriginal issues. Participants will gain a basic understanding of the constitutional and legal framework governing Aboriginal rights and issues in Canada.

Participants will learn the fundamental elements of legislative drafting. The learning will be reinforced by practical exercises, time for discussion and examples drawn from legislative experience.
