Description

The Advisory Committee for Women at Justice is holding five Women’s Self-Defence Virtual Workshops facilitated by Wen-Do Women’s Self-Defense (https://wendo.ca). Instructors will facilitate discussions that break down and debunk victim-blaming stereotypes and myths that surround women’s self-defence, and recognize the need for broader culture change to prevent violence against women. By offering factual and resource-rich discussions about misogyny, abuse, harassment, and assault, women will have the opportunity to learn and practice physical and verbal self-protection skills and strategies that cover a range of dangerous and/or uncomfortable situations.
NOTE: This course is designed exclusively for women, providing a supportive and empowering environment to enhance learning and growth.
What to expect:
- Physical techniques will be presented online with the understanding that some women may be sitting or sometimes standing at their computer;
- Participants are encouraged to do only what is emotionally comfortable and physically safe for their bodies.
- This session will be held virtually. You are welcome to participate from either your worksite locations, or your telework office.
- Participants are expected to respect each other’s privacy and confidentiality while class is in session. As such, each participant must be alone in a room with a door that will close, and is encouraged to be on camera and to use headphones.
By the end of this learning activity, participants will be able to:
- Know and practice physical and verbal self-protection skills and strategies that cover a range of dangerous and/or uncomfortable situations.
- Better understand and break down the victim-blaming stereotypes and myths that surround women’s self-defence.
