Description
Please note that this course is open to Justice Canada legal professionals only (lawyers, notaries who are members of the Chambre des notaires du Québec and paralegals).
This 1 hour session is designed for counsel, paralegals and legal assistants who want to use Microsoft Teams more effectively to manage litigation files and long term legal projects.
Using a practical, litigation focused example, the session will demonstrate how to structure Teams to support your day to day work, reduce email volume, and improve collaboration on complex documents.
This session is ideal for litigation teams looking to standardize how they use Microsoft Teams to manage files, streamline communication, and support more efficient collaboration across roles.
Learning Objectives / Topics covered
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
Set up file/project specific Teams and channels
- Create a dedicated Team for each major case or project.
- Add and use channels (e.g., General, Pleadings, Discovery, Correspondence) to keep conversations and files organized by topic.
Collaborate on documents in real time
- Edit complex legal documents directly in Teams without downloading or leaving the application.
- Use integrated libraries to avoid email chains and duplicate versions.
- Apply basic permission settings to protect sensitive files and understand how finalized documents can be moved to LEX.
Track tasks and responsibilities
- Use Microsoft Planner and calendar within Teams to assign tasks, set deadlines, and track milestones.
- Increase accountability and visibility for counsel and support staff on litigation steps and deliverables.
Centralize communication for each matter
- Keep all matter related discussions in Teams posts and chat, rather than scattered across individual email inboxes.
- Understand how Teams can function as a running matter file where content remains available for the life of the case or long term project.
