Description

“The ABCs of Canadian Bijuralism” covers the foundations of bijuralism, illustrates its key concepts, and presents various areas of the Department’s activities where bijuralism may impact legal practice, as well as some of the associated challenges. The objective is to raise awareness among the Department’s legal professionals about the issues raised by bijuralism and the role each of us can play, regardless of their area of work.

Learning Objectives/ Topics covered

By the end of this training, learners will be able to:

• Describe why bijuralism is relevant to their work as a legal professional
• Identify some characteristics of civil law and common law
• Explain interpretation, principles of complementarity and dissociation in regards to bijuralism
• Identify some expressions of bijuralism
• Describe their responsibilities as legal professionals in the Department of Justice with respect to bijuralism
