Description

This virtual forum will bring together participants from within and outside the Government of Canada to examine the impact of race on access to bail and how it affects Black people, and youth.

The discussion supports Canada’s Black Justice Strategy and builds on the external Steering Group’s Report, A Roadmap for Transformative Change. The forum will feature presentations by two leading Canadian scholars, based on their think piece papers, followed by a moderated discussion.

What to Expect

Participants can expect:

  • A focused discussion on the impact of race on access to bail in both the adult and youth criminal justice systems
  • An opportunity to reflect on how suggestions to alleviate disproportional impacts, and restore public confidence in the role of bail in the criminal justice system

This course is in English, with interpretation available in French.
