Description
This course introduces learners to the "Profile of the Interculturally Effective Person," a framework developed to guide Canadian diplomats, that is equally relevant for legal professionals working with Indigenous peoples. Central to this approach is fostering nation-to-nation relationships based on recognition, respect, and cultural understanding. By adopting diplomatic behaviours and developing key intercultural competencies, legal professionals can better support reconciliation, enhance communication, and promote equity in their work with Indigenous communities.
Content Warning: Please be advised that this course raises topics that may be emotionally challenging or triggering, such as discussions surrounding anti-indigenous and systemic racism, residential schools, assimilation, discrimination, and other negative impacts of colonization on Indigenous Peoples. We acknowledge the historical and intergenerational trauma that may be associated with these topics.
