Each year, the Minister of Justice National Youth Policing Award recognizes police officers and other youth justice professionals involved in police-led initiatives that develop and implement innovative approaches or promising practices. These initiatives go beyond the formal court system when working with youth in conflict with the law.
The 2025 award was presented to the Longueuil Agglomeration Police Service in Quebec for their exceptional work on the Groupe Contact project. This award celebrates police-led projects that reflect the principles of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, particularly those that prioritize alternatives to formal judicial processes.
Groupe Contact is a community-based, trauma-informed youth intervention program that supports youth aged 12 to 17 who are either in contact with or at risk of coming into contact with the criminal justice system. The program promotes positive youth development through personalized intervention plans tailored to each young person’s needs.
The recipients will present on their initiative and leave time for questions and answers at the end.
