Description

This presentation will cover the practicalities and legalities of artificial intelligence (AI) in the government context, providing valuable insights into navigating this fast-evolving landscape.

Beginning with an introduction to the technology itself, including recent developments such as chain-of-thought models, we’ll then dive into the high-level legal issues counsel will need to consider when advising clients, including issues associated with administrative law, privacy law and human rights law. Foundational legal resources developed by Justice’s AI working group will be introduced. We will then dive into emerging concerns associated with the latest generative AI systems, touching upon recent Treasury Board Secretariat guidance. We will also provide some insight into recent regulatory initiatives connected to AI.

Strategies for engaging with clients and advising effectively throughout the AI lifecycle will be discussed. The session will conclude with a quick overview of work being done internally at Justice to make AI tools available for internal use, followed by a question-and-answer roundtable.
