Description
This course will be held in English, with interpretation available in French.
Every year, the Minister of Justice National Youth Justice Policing Award recognizes police officers, and other youth justice actors, involved in police-led initiatives, who develop and implement innovative approaches or promising practices that go beyond the formal court system when dealing with youth in conflict with the law.
Staff Sergeant Lindsey Houghton was presented with the 2024 award for his initiation of and leadership with the Gang Intervention and Exiting Team (GIET) through the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of British Columbia.
Corporal Bob Sangha and Corporal Colin Gilmore will present and share their experience working on the GIET, specifically with young people under the age of 18. They will also discuss how the GIET provies support to high-risk individuals who are engaged in gang-related activities and who wish to exit gang life. The GIET does ample outreach to encourage and support those involved in gang life to exit through intervention strategies.
