Description

Every year, the Minister of Justice National Youth Justice Policing Award recognizes police officers, and other youth justice actors, involved in police-led initiatives, who develop and implement innovative approaches or promising practices that go beyond the formal court system when dealing with youth in conflict with the law.

Constable Jessica Bonneville of the Saint-Eustache Police Service was presented with the 2023 award for her leadership and commitment to the “Toucher le Sommet” project. Constable Bonneville will be presenting on the winning initiative, providing background information and details, and answering to any questions raised.

The presenter(s) will share their experience dealing with youth who have been found guilty of their first criminal offence, and face various challenges and risks, then will discuss the spectrum of youth justice approaches available in these situations. They will also discuss their initiative, “Toucher le Sommet”, which over the course of ten weeks, police officers mentor youth through sports and games, which support their rehabilitation and reintegration into the community in the City of Saint-Eustache.
