The consideration of legal risk is an inherent part of everyday work for all legal professionals. Legal Risk is defined by the Department of Justice Canada as "the likelihood of adverse legal outcome in the courts, assuming the matter were to be considered by a court".
This course provides an overview of the process for assessing and communicating legal risk and introduces the new Legal Risk Framework. This course discusses the Legal Risk Spectrum, best practices and essential skills in assessing and communicating risk to federal departments and agencies.
Topics covered:
- Apply new definitions for assessing and communicating legal risks
- Use the Legal Risk Spectrum to assess and communicate legal risks
- Demonstrate knowledge of best practices to assess and communicate legal risks to improve decision-making for the client
