Description
This series of online self-paced courses is for litigators who have carriage of litigation files arising under the Access to Information Act and Privacy Act.
The second course in the series, Privacy Act, aims to provide litigators with an introduction to ATIP law. It will also explain to litigators the specific legal and procedural issues that arise in Privacy Act judicial review applications.
By the end of this learning activity, participants will be able to:
- Describe the purpose of the Privacy Act (the Act)
- Describe key concepts that are fundamental to understanding the Act
- Explain the obligations relating to the collection, use and disclosure of personal information
- Describe the Act’s request process
- Describe some types of information that are exempt and excluded from the provisions of the Act
- Describe how the Act is enforced
- Identify some modernization reforms currently being undertaken
