NOTE: The course will be delivered partly in French and partly in English without simultaneous interpretation.
This workshop will allow participants to further their knowledge concerning:
- The evolution of the courts' approach to analyzing and applying s. 15 of the Charter;
- Recent trends in the case law on equality rights;
- Emerging issues in s. 15 of the Charter jurisprudence.
Topics covered
- A detailed review of the framework for applying s.15 of the Charter.
- An explanation of the concepts of comparison, grounds of discrimination, and ameliorative programs under s.15(2)
- An examination of the application of these principles in key cases.
- A discussion of some of the emerging issues under s.15.
Presented by the Human Rights Law Section, Public Law and Legislative Services Sector in collaboration with the Legal Practices Policy Division (LPPD).
