Description

Our Vision: Amplifying Collective Voices for Equity and Well-being:

Through this half-day, hybrid event, we will gather amplify the collective voices of women, transforming private health struggles into a mandate for systemic change. The "culture of silence" is a barrier in the Department of Justice. By speaking out together, we can move toward an equitable workplace that actively supports the physical, mental, and reproductive realities of women’s lives, and where women needs are recognized not as individual burdens, but as fundamental considerations in workplace design.

Event Highlights:

Panel Discussion: A deep dive into the physiological and psychological impacts of workplace design and the “invisible load” featuring discussions on: menopause; ergonomics and corporate wellness; navigating life transitions; and life coaching for women in law.

Interactive Dialogue: A live survey to bring out the shared experiences that are often kept in the shadows.

Workshops & TED Talks: Discussions on visibility, leadership dilemmas, and reclaiming work-life balance.

Network Launch: The official launch of the Justice Canada Women’s Network (JCWN)—a new sanctuary for connection, leadership, and collective advocacy for women.

By the end of this learning activity, participants will be able to:

  • Analyze Substantive Health Equality: Discern how "one-size-fits-all" or "gender-neutral" policies can ignore women’s specific health needs, creating systemic barriers to success, and identify ways to ameliorate or remove these barriers.
  • Articulate the Cognitive Load: Acknowledge the "invisible" mental and emotional labor of women as a primary driver of chronic stress and burnout, and explore ways to reshape workplace norms to protect well-being.
  • Navigate Biological Transitions: Understand the workplace impacts of menopause and identify stigma-free strategies to ameliorate those impacts and support leadership retention.
  • Leverage Collective Advocacy: Utilize the JCWN to transition from individual resilience to structural improvements that mainstream women’s health needs at every stage of their professional lives.
