Description

This session explores how the transformative principles of Cultural Humility are applied to Trauma-Informed Practice to create safer, more compassionate, and more equity-centered environments. During this session, Dr. Nadia Ferrara will build on the Cultural Humility framework of self-evaluation and relational accountability to define trauma, explain the core principles of Trauma-Informed Practice, and how to apply a trauma-informed approach at the organizational and personal level. Emphasis is placed on prioritizing psychological safety, trust, choice, and collaboration as essential to Trauma-Informed Practice, as well as their interconnectedness with Cultural Humility. When practiced together, Cultural Humility and Trauma-Informed Practice are mutually reinforcing and offer a pathway towards humanizing our systems and our interactions with those around us. Connect with Dr. Ferrara with a Q&A period at the end of the session.

Learning Objectives/ Topics Covered:

  • Define trauma and recognize its impact at both individual and organizational levels.
  • Apply the principles of Trauma-Informed Practice—psychological safety, trust, choice, and collaboration—in their work.
