Description

The South Asian Legal Network (SALN) is privileged to host its first event to mark the upcoming Asian Heritage Month. Join us in welcoming the Honourable Senator Baltej S. Dhillon as our guest speaker, who will educate and build awareness about anti-Asian racism and ways to contribute to diversity and inclusion. The keynote address will be followed by a Q&A period and networking opportunities.

Senator Dhillon made history in 1991 as the first RCMP officer to wear a turban, advocating for the right to practice his faith while serving Canada. He went on to have a successful 30-year career with the RCMP as an accomplished major crime investigator, police interrogator, polygraph examiner, intelligence officer, and emergency planner.

SALN was established in May 2023 and aims to provide a positive and inclusive space for South Asian legal professionals within the Department of Justice Canada. It allows members to share their experiences, network, build mentorship connections, and organize training activities highlighting the careers and contributions of the South Asian community. The Network brings together lawyers working in various areas of the Department, including the Departmental Legal Services, the National Litigation Sector, as well as the Public Law and Legislative Services Sector.

If you would like to submit questions in advance of the event, please send your question to the following event coordinators: raji.gandhi@rcmp-grc.gc.ca, anushua.nag@justice.gc.ca.
