Description
All federal public servants deserve a work place that is free from harassment and violence. However, such incidents can happen, and may go unreported or unsupported. Many employees and managers who have experienced or witnessed occurrences of work place harassment and violence are uncertain of next steps, fear reprisal, or are unsure if raising the issue or filing a complaint is warranted.
This course, specific for Justice Canada employees and managers, will help deepen their understanding of this issue, and will review reporting and supportive measures. It will outline the legislation that applies to employers (under federal jurisdiction) regulated by the Canada Labour Code, Part II (Code), and its associated Work Place Harassment and Violence Prevention Regulations (Regulations) as well as the Departmental Work Place Harassment and Violence Prevention Policy (Policy). The course will present participants with relevant examples that illustrate the multiple characteristics of harassment and violence so they can learn how to mitigate and prevent occurrences in the work place. Understanding what constitutes harassment and violence in the workplace as well as what the resolution process entails is also a key aspect of promoting a respectful workplace.
