Description

This presentation provides an overview of the Accessible Canada Initiative, focusing on the Accessible Canada Act, Accessibility Standards Canada, Accessible Canada Regulations, the process of standards-making, as well as select relevant legal matters that Legal Services has advised on. It outlines the purpose, approach, and objectives of the Act, the roles and responsibilities of key players, and the development and implementation of accessibility standards. The presentation also discusses the planning and reporting requirements, enforcement mechanisms, and the involvement of Canadians with disabilities in the process.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the purpose and approach of the Accessible Canada Act.
  2. Identify the key areas where barriers need to be removed and prevented.
  3. Recognize the roles and responsibilities of various entities under the Act.
  4. Learn about the development and implementation of accessibility standards.
  5. Understand the planning, reporting, and enforcement mechanisms.
  6. Appreciate the involvement of Canadians with disabilities in the accessibility process.
