Description

Gender-based Analysis (GBA Plus) is an analytical tool used in the federal context to support the development of responsive and inclusive initiatives, including legislation, policies, programs and services. GBA Plus is a process for understanding who is impacted by the issue and how; identifying how the initiative could be tailored to meet diverse needs of the people directly impacted; and discovering, anticipating and mitigating any barriers to accessing or benefiting from the initiative.

A GBA Plus Guide for Canada’s Legal Team (the “Guide”) has been developed to encourage and facilitate the integration of a GBA Plus approach into the legal services context.

The Implementation and engagement sessions are prepared to encourage and support the integration of intersectional GBA Plus considerations into the work of legal services.

Beginning with a pilot session sponsored by Justice Canada’s GBA Plus Champion, 1-3 sessions will be scheduled and facilitated, with additional sessions available as needed. The final number of sessions scheduled will be dependent on demand as well as on resource availability.

Learning objectives:

By the end of this information session, participants will:

  • Integrate an intersectional lens into the daily work of legal professionals
  • Foster culture change by engaging in critical reflection on how to integrate intersectional GBA Plus into the provision of legal services
  • Provide suggestions about how to strengthen and measure the effects of legal services (legislative, advisory and litigation) on Canadians
  • Identify barriers and challenges that legal professionals may experience when implementing the Guide.

Presented by: GBA Plus Unit and Change Management Team in collaboration with the Centre of Expertise for Learning and Professional Development.

Who should attend: Participants will be small groups of legal professionals working in the three main legal services functions of Justice Canada (legislative services, advisory services or litigation services).
