Please note that this course is only open to Justice Canada employees.
This legal orientation course is aimed at providing employees of the Department of Justice, who may or may not have a legal training / education background, with knowledge of applicable legal principles and terminology. Participants will be introduced to legal practices (part A) and to some of the primary substantive areas of law (part B), and will gain an appreciation of some of the Department’s areas of legal work.

- Overview of policy development from a GBA Plus and Anti-Racist lens
- Drafting Regulations and Laws
- Providing Legal Advice from a Legal Services Unit (Health Canada) and Centre of Expertise (Constitutional, Administrative and International Law Section)
- Introduction to Litigation
- Discussion on the Indigenous Rights and Relations Portfolio
- Overview of the Tax Law Services Portfolio
- Introduction to Essential Legal Concepts/Fields
- Human Rights Law
- National Security Law
