The ability to apply the principles of plain language has quickly become a standard for clarity and coherence in business writing in North America. As Department of Justice employees, we are expected to apply these principles in our work. This training course is an overview of different applicable principles for effective communication in a legal context. It highlights counsel’s role in providing legal and policy advice, the importance of speaking with one voice, writing for your audience, when to brief your manager and includes a practical checklist.
