The Working Mind an evidence-based training, is designed to initiate a shift in the way people think and feel about and act with respect to mental health. Focusing on stigma reduction and mental health awareness, The Working Mind aims to change the attitudes and behaviours of Canadians towards people living with mental illness, so that they are treated fairly and as full citizens, able to contribute to society as any other member. Participants demonstrated an increase in resilience skills and mental health well-being, as well as a decrease in stigmatizing attitudes.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this learning activity, participants will be able to:
- Define basic concepts related to mental health and mental illness;
- Recognize the impact of stigma and discuss how to reduce stigma and other barriers to care in the workplace;
- Recognize and keep track of changes in their mental health and well-being and know when to take appropriate actions;
- Be able to have conversations about mental health and mental illness with colleagues, friends and family members;
- Identify and practice coping strategies to manage stress and remain resilient;
- Identify and use available resources to support themselves and others
In this virtual training, employees will cover the following 3 core modules:
- Module 1 - Mental Health & Stigma

Sensitive Content – Trigger Warning
During this training, we will briefly cover the topic of suicide for awareness and prevention purposes. We understand that this content can be difficult for some participants and to ensure your comfort and well-being, the facilitator will provide verbal trigger warnings before these sections. While the Mental Health Commission of Canada requires attendance for the entire training to receive a certificate, you may step back temporarily if needed. Content disclosures will be provided throughout the course, allowing you to turn off your camera and take breaks if necessary.
