Description
NOTE: The course will be given partly in French and partly in English, without simultaneous translation.
This session will provide participants with a primer on the complaint process and key concepts under the Canadian Human Rights Act.
- The complaint process at the Canadian Human Rights Commission and Canadian Human Rights Tribunal.
- Explanation and discussion of key concepts such as prima facie discrimination, services customarily available to the public, bona fide justification/occupational requirement, the duty to accommodate and undue hardship with reference to key cases in the area.
- Recent trends and emerging issues in the case law dealing with human rights legislation.
Presented by the Human Rights Law Section in collaboration with the Legal Practices Policy Division (LPPD)
