Description

This course will provide participants with an understanding of basic principles of tort law as applied to the federal Crown. By the end of the session, participants will be able to identify relevant legal issues and will understand basic legal principles governing these issues and their application by the courts.

Topics covered:

  • The emergence of Crown liability and its parameters as defined by the Crown Liability and Proceedings Act and the courts
  • An update on significant cases dealing with basic principles of Crown liability
  • An overview of recent trends, other significant decisions and current issues in this area
  • A discussion of distinctions and interactions that exist between civil liability and other claims in administrative law
