ATIP Fundamentals for Litigators
We have developed a new in-class course for litigators who have carriage of litigation files arising under the Access to Information Act and Privacy Act. The course aims to provide litigators with an introduction to ATIP law. It will also explain to litigators the specific legal and procedural issues that arise in Access to Information Act and Privacy Act judicial review applications.

Basic Principles of Aboriginal Law
Presentation on the general principles of Aboriginal law and recent cases from the Supreme Court of Canada dealing with Aboriginal issues. Participants will gain a basic understanding of the constitutional and legal framework governing Aboriginal rights and issues in Canada.

Basic Principles of Legislative Drafting
Participants will learn the fundamental elements of legislative drafting. The learning will be reinforced by practical drafting exercises, group discussion and examples drawn from the existing legislative corpus.

Case Summary Basics (Recorded)
The first part of this course discusses the structure for case summaries, steps for drafting an excellent case summary, the rules of legal citation, and tips to write clearly in English. The second part involves an exercise reviewing a case summary, and allows participants to compare their case summary to the different options proposed by the facilitators. Participants are encouraged to review the two cases discussed in the exercises in advance of taking the course: Bennett v Bennett, 2016 ONSC 503 and Stover v Wallner (Paralegal Solutions), 2013 TMOB 183.
